11th December 2021:
The weather was against us, but the spirits were high! A great day & the perfect example of a Community coming together & working together. The groups involved were; Sustainable Skibbereen, Growing Together, Macra Na Feirme (Caheragh), Mizen Scouts & the Wellbeing Network. The initiative was supported by Cork Kerry Community Healthcare – Health & Wellbeing & was funded by The Community Foundation for Ireland Biodiversity Fund, Green Economy Foundation & Cork County Council’s CEA Fund. More than 31 people + 1 dog took part in the planting of native trees & hedgerows at the Skibbereen Hospital grounds, all under the supervision of Niki Keeling (Green Economy Foundation). Also, a massive thank you to Christy Cooper & daughter Mihaela for the soup + Eileen & Nora for the sandwiches (Yum!). There are plans to come back in January & plant up another area (to be announced) so watch this space…
